How can you design and make a flag to commemorate 100th anniversary of granting Polish women the right to vote? How can you express emotions, thoughts or experiences in images, signs, slogans or words? What is the position of women in contemporary society? Can women make things happen? Does their voice matter? We tried to answer these and other questions during workshops organised for girls, boys, women and men in Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź.

Workshops were run by female and male initiators of the project “ONE HUNDRED FLAGS" on the one hundredth anniversary of women’s suffrage”, which culminated in a march with flags in Warsaw on November 24, 2018. Flags made by participants of the workshops were waving together with flags made by a number of female and male artists.

Women in Poland were granted the right to vote on November 28, 1918 following a night-long occupation of Warsaw’s Belvedere Palace. Although they had fought for independence and suffered not less than their male counterparts, they were denied access to political power. Women won the right to vote but the fact is often erased from the collective consciousness, which is why it was worth remembering and its anniversary was celebrated.
