Art in Postdisciplinary Age. Guy Ben-Ary, SymbioticA and Modern Forms of Syncretism in Art

Prof. Kluszczyński’s lecture will focus on relationships between art and science, hybridisation of art, transformations of basic aesthetic categories, such as “artist” and “creation” and resulting challenges that face artistic institutions.
On that evening at ms2 we will reflect upon the oeuvre of Guy Ben-Ary, an Israeli artist working across multiple fields including Bio-Art and robotics, installations and conceptual art, netart, film and sound art but also drawing and sculpture. Transdisciplinary artworks of Ben-Ary show traces of a variety of trends in modern art. His multimedia, hybrid works where technologies, materials, working methods, and rules of aesthetics interact with one another – as we may read in one of Prof. Kluszczyński’s writings – “propose an equally complex aesthetic experience to the audience”.
Ryszard Kluszczyński – Professor in Humanities, works at the Institute of Contemporary Culture of the University of Lodz, Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, teaches also at the Leon Schiller National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź.
His interests include new media art, experimental film and video art, cyberculture, information and network society as well as the theory of art and artistic avant-garde.
Vice-President of the Committee on Cultural Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences, vice-president of the Polish section and a member of international section of International Association of Art Critics (AICA), member of Polish Society of Cultural Studies and Łódź Learned Society, President of the Programming Board of the Centre of Contemporary Art in Gdańsk, and member of the Museum Council at Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź appointed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
