Lecture by Anton Vidokle. This is Cosmos; The Communist Revolution was Caused by the Sun; Immortality and Resurrection for All!

Anton Vidokle will show two short films and deliver a lecture-performance based on his studies of Russian cosmism – materialist philosophy of immortality that emerged in Russia in the late 19th century and exerted a significant impact upon the development of artistic and political avant-garde. The trilogy filmed for the last four years in Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine reflects upon the ideas of the main founders of cosmism: Nikolai Fedorov – a librarian from Moscow who developed the philosophy of technological immortality and universal resurrection, Alexander Chizhevsky – a biophysicist who propagated the theory of the influence of sun and cosmic radiation upon the course of World War I, and Alexander Bogdanov – co-founder of Bolshevik party, who in the mid 1920s conducted medical studies on rejuvenation through blood transfusion.

Anton Vidokle is an artist and editor of „e-flux journal”. His works were shown, inter alia, at Documenta 13, Venice Biennale, Istanbul Biennale, and in Tate Modern. He organised An Image Bank for Everyday Revolutionary Life and Martha Rosler Library. Other his productions include Time/Bank, together with Julieta Aranda, and Unitednationsplaza – a twelve-month experimental school in Berlin. Recently his films were screened at Montreal Biennale (2084) and Shanghai Biennale (This is Cosmos, 2014).
