The sixth feature film of one of the originators of the New German Cinema is also one of his the most amazing achievements. Once more Kluge uses methods similar to those of Godard (off-screen commentaries, inscriptions) to explore a social problem connected with the emancipation of women. His sister, Alexandra, plays the title role of a domestic slave, a young wife and mother, who part-time works as an abortionist. She is also an unaccomplished activist enslaved by her family, the society, and history.
