Neo-Poetics: Apple-tree Synthesis. Neoplastic Room, Piet Mondrian and Vertical and Horizontal

When designing the Neoplastic Room Władysław Strzemiński imposed radical restrictions upon his work: only three colours and only three non-colours, only vertical and horizontal, only asymmetry. These rigorous rules were introduced to art by Piet Mondrian, artist, who started from almost botanical attention paid to chrysanthemums and gradually shifted to strict geometry combined with metaphysics.  

„Neo-poetics” is a series of lectures devoted to the Neoplastic Room opened in 1948 and closed in 1950. Original but at the same time reconstructed. Perceived as artwork and, simultaneously, as a room hosting other artworks. Being pure and applied art. The core of Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, the room  which has become a legend. „Neo-poetics”, a series of eight lectures, is an in-depth analysis and interpretation of the most important exhibition space in Poland – Władysław Strzemiński’s „Neoplastic Room”.

Lectures will be delivered by Leszek Karczewski, PhD, head of Educational Department of  Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, associate professor at the Institute of Contemporary Culture of the University of Lodz.
