Sunday at Muzeum: Unplugged

Unplugged is an ambiguous figure. For people who listen to music consciously, it brings to mind acoustic concerts initiated by Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambor on MTV in 1989. Today, it might be a prophecy for the world which is overexploiting fossil resources.

Can modern art be unplugged today? Can it happen here and now, without electricity powering internet? What about Muzeum Sztuki? Can we pull the plug out? We tried!

Activities:

1. The draw of instructions from Yoko Ono’s set "Grapefruit" - as an instruction for individual delegated performance.

2. Ivy of wishes (modeled on the repeated gesture by Yoko Ono) - an invitation to write wishes for yourself and the world, then installing them on the museum ivy.

3. Festival of songwriters, beat-boxers, reciters, mimes performing solo on one-man stages, made from recycled EUR-pallets, set deep in the museum garden. The message referred to the climate change, each artist relied on the strength of her/his voice or persuasion of movement. The use of extension cords was banned!

4. Stand with the production of t-shirts with slogans from the art world of the 20th and 21st centuries. Such t-shirts serve as a commentary on the world in the state of climate disaster.

5. Documentation of the event without electricity and batteries. We encouraged guests to find historic cameras like Zenit and Zorka. For the most analogue ones, we asked for drawing documentation of activities in the ms1 courtyard.

6. The art of mail. Overheard verses, slogans, pieces of conversation and discussion can be "glued" together in many poems. We invited museum guests to write collage poems on promotional ms postcards and send them to randomly selected addresses. The Department of Education provided an efficient generator of the most popular addresses in Poland. The brave ones wrote a return address. Such analogue correspondence can be the beginning of a beautiful friendship!
