Avant-garde art, contemporary art, modern art - are still the names that intimidate non-specialists. A line of specially designed clothing and jewellery (in cooperation with Animakingdom), inspired by the collection of works of the Muzeum Sztuki, seemed to be a great way to make progressive phenomena in 20th and 21st century art more familiar. The idea of cooperation between the Muzeum and ‘Pan Tu Nie Stał’ company was based on finding a bridge between more similar, ‘tamed’ fields, such as fashion, applied design, design, avant-garde and contemporary art. In cooperation with ‘Pan Tu Nie Stał’, however, we were interested not only in a well-designed final effect, but above all in an educational aspect, with stress put on spreading information about and popularizing the art collection of our museum. The company proposed to use a system of codes hidden in clothes tags that would be decrypted thanks to a cardboard decoder attached to the purchased item. After entering the code on the dedicated to it educational platform www.projekt.ptns.eu, the client finds out what work inspired their product, can read about it or go directly to the website zasoby.msl.org.pl, the database of digitized works from the museum's collection for more specialized information.
High culture and popular culture are often seen as competing and even contradictory phenomena. The cooperation of the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź and the ‘Pan Tu Nie Stał’ company has proved again that minimizing the distance between the two can result in very successful projects. Thanks to such collaborations, the Museum not only supports good Polish design, but also reaches for a wider audience with information on contemporary art, fulfilling its mission of going beyond the museum’s space.
The idea of the Visible Museum project is to promote the best systems of visual identification and graphic solutions implemented by museums.
