War Losses of Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź
Various media will be used to popularize knowledge about the extent of losses and the results of archival research, from a comprehensive information campaign through an exhibition using visual materials to a website dedicated to the project, which will enable reaching a wide audience. The website will provide access to preserved iconographic material as well as other archival materials, including, above all: a German catalog prepared during the war: Entartete und Jűdische Kunst, together with a study identifying the works in the context of the MSŁ collections and indicating the losses within them.
Also on the website will be published a text about the history of the museum before the war, the state of the collection, war losses and attempts to recover them in the post-war period. Other studies on the war losses of the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź will also be made available, including: article by Nawojka Cieślińska-Lobkowicz - Kunstmuseum zu Litzmannstadt and the exhibition of "degenerate art in occupied Łódź" (in: Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź. Monografia, volume I, Łódź 2015). Translating the above-mentioned texts and basic information about lost works into English will contribute to the dissemination of knowledge about the war losses of the MSŁ on an international scale.
Another form of disseminating knowledge about war losses at the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź will be an exhibition presenting archives held by the Scientific Documentation Department of the MSŁ and a series of lectures. The exhibition presented on the mezzanine of the MSŁ library will include archival materials regarding lost objects from the Museum's collection: including: their surviving photographs, glass negatives, documents from the post-war period created for the purpose of potential recovery of lost works, as well as scans of documents transferred to the State Archives in Łódź and press clippings.
The above-mentioned activities will be accompanied by verification and supplementation of data in the database of war losses of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
